Afternoon in the Valley
Down these a path into history you go,
Alistair said, not too loudly.
I am the one who says, This is where I will
tell my story. And he said, Sit down.
I am going to sleep until I die.
Of course, yesterday’s sunsets ran from sides
of hills like blood where the light was right.
The valleys were lacerated, liquified.
Naturally, all sorrows vanished.
One would have doubted preexisting theory
that such a thing was possible.
